Well it is not a myth that diesel engines are noisy; just sat next to a 
Dodge Ram pickup or something, engine idling while I was at the post 
office the other day. 'Rattle, rattle, rattle, . . ." ad infinitum. But 
diesel engines designed with the multijet common  rail direct  injection 
system  as developed by FIAT

are much quieter in design (acording to these reports once warmed up).

So, you have driven the diesel 156? A 1.9 or 2.4 liter? What kind of 
mileage did you get (yes, please convert to mpg if you can <G> 5.5 l / 
100 km means little to me <g>) in real world driving?
