Re: [alfa] JTD Engine
Hi Bernie,
We rented the 1.9. We got about 30 MPG average as I remember. Now you have
to remember that is cruising the highways @ 240K. We actually got mid 30s
in the city @ normal speeds.
We are thinking about heading to Italy in September for Maserati's 90th. If
we do I will pay closer attention to exact fuel consumption.
Marci and I both loved the 156. She is seriously thinking about talking to
Ken and seeing what he went through to get his 166 in.

Rodney:
Well it is not a myth that diesel engines are noisy; just sat next to a
Dodge Ram pickup or something, engine idling while I was at the post office
the other day. 'Rattle, rattle, rattle, . . ." ad infinitum. But diesel
engines designed with the multijet common rail direct injection system
as developed by FIAT http://www.histomobile.com/histomob/tech/2/124.htm
and
http://car.kak.net/modules.php?file=article&name=news&op=modload&sid=754
are much quieter in design (acording to these reports once warmed up).
So, you have driven the diesel 156? A 1.9 or 2.4 liter? What kind of
mileage did you get (yes, please convert to mpg if you can <G> 5.5 l / 100
km means little to me <g>) in real world driving?
Thanks,
Best Wishes,
Bernie Bennett

Yep Marci and I were just talking how great it would be to have the 156 TD
that we rent when in Italy. The car gets great fuel mileage and plenty
of
power. The other myth about diesel engines being noisy is also bunk.
These
cars are nice and quiet no real difference between a gas vehicle.
