[alfa] Tweeter location
Thanks everyone for your input. It was my understanding the ideal
location for tweeters is to be ear level and pointed directly at them as
Dr. Bereznoff suggested.
Let's be honest. Short of a padded top and multi $$'s available, one is
not going to get anywhere close to decent sounds out of an open top car
- sometimes referred to as a Spider. My thought is to be able to get
"reasonably" decent sound at low speeds such as a Sunday cruise.
Also, theft and originality are important. If either a judge or a
potential thief checks the car out (bet any car judges out there like to
be lumped in with the bad guys), I want as few add on's to the Spider as
possible visible to the naked eye.
Since a PO cut nasty holes in the kick panels, I'll fill with two 5"
fairly decent speakers. I might add two 4" x 6" coaxial speakers in the
rear under the apron. Note to those not familiar with Round-Tail "back
seat" the apron is just draped down with only a few snaps holding it
down. One can't hang speakers from it. As previously mentioned, I'd
perforate the apron in a nice minimalistic pattern.
My thinking on the "tweets in the headrest" as Nathan Goyette described
them was if the window was up, there should be some, umm, bounce back,
and the passenger's left tweeter would be pointing in approximately the
correct direction. Since the Spider's headrest is only 7.5" wide,
tweeters couldn't be installed on the front - at least not and still
function as a headrest. I do appreciate Alex Rodiguez including a photo
of Blaupunkt Tweeters in a headrest. At least it told me they can be
"buried" in foam.
I do have a new, unused crossover (Optimus). Not sure how good it is,
but hopefully should suffice. It's small enough to easily hide.
This project is a long way off, but need to know what I'm up against,
both complication and cost wise when the time comes.
I've said this before, but hope others get benefits out of some of my
myriad questions - especially those of the electrical / electronic
persuasion.
