Hi Ken:

The cable on the power mirror switch of my '87 Spider Veloce is short, as 
you described your eBay switch's.  If you're certain the switches are 
identical, why not solder the long cable from your old switch to the 
circuit board on the "new" switch?  Just us a very low wattage soldering 
iron, and give the board a rest between connections, to let it cool down a bit.
