[alfa] limited-driving insurance?
Since the recent insurance topic is all fresh in our minds, I thought I'd
ask: what is the right insurance for my Alfa?
I ask this because I was T-boned in the passenger side back in 2000 in a
GTV-6. Unfortunately,
who's fault it was was never clearly explained to me and I wound up selling
the wreck to another Alfisti for parts and that was the end of it. At the
time, I only had liability since it was all I could afford. I never saw any
insurance money or didn't even see an opportunity to fight the other guy
(yeah, it was State Farm and the guy was an ex-cop of an adjacent town where
I got smacked).
Now, I'm about to pick up a recently refreshed (completely stock but needing
a fresh coat of paint) '85 GTV-6 (and finally get back into the Alfa Club,
etc. in the Chicago area). I am NOT going to use it as a daily driver (I
know better, now... long story). I WILL use it every so often AND an
occassional track event (possibility of SCCA-sanctioned events, not sure,
yet)... low miles each year, regardless. I want to keep this car clean and
in good shape for a LONG time and I want the proper insurance coverage;
however, I'm not sure which is the best (and, of course, economical) method
and/or company to go with.
I've seen the recent posts about backing up your car with photos, receipts,
comparable sale ads (that info. should be automatic given the low number of
Alfas out there), but as someone else mentioned, the insurance cos. are just
like any other company- bring in more money than they spend. So, what is the
best way to cover your car (because the possibility always exists that your
pics, ads, etc... won't hold up against a large corporation's unwillingness
to spend a few more bucks).
Please advise, thanks,
Jay O.
