[alfa] RE: [ALFA] Brake Bleeding Procedure
Joe writes "I use a very down market version of the Speedbleeder to
bleed my brakes: I buy a one-way aquarium check valve at my local big
box pet supply emporium for about two bucks and attach clear plastic
aquarium air tubing to either end."
Just loosening the bleeder valve does not guarantee you won't suck air
into the caliper when the brake pedal comes up. Just to prove this, I
attached a small vacuum pump to the bleeder screw using clear vinyl
hose and a small glass jar with two nipples soldered to the cover to
catch the fluid. Start the pump and you'll get brake fluid in the jar
but very frothy showing it is accompagnied by a lot of air leaking past
the screw threads. Stop when you think all air is out of the caliper.
If the master cylinder is bad, this method will even suck air past the
MC piston seals. I eventually abandoned this method in favor of the
pressure method.
