[alfa] David Uihlein's Alfa MG special

The October issue of Alfa Owner which arrived today has an article about Alfas at the Amelia Island concours; on the third pages there are two photos of a curious MG TD "special" powered with an Alfa Giulia engine. The car has an MG chassis, it says, but a body styled tike a post-war Indy car, but a two seater (which earlier Indy cars were, for a riding mechanic) and cycle fenders (implying a road car) but no lights (implying not a road car) and an unusually long snout (suggesting an fwd Indy car, but unlikely on a TD chassis. ) The plot thickens when you get to the area of the engine; there is no hood-open photo, and no information in the brief text, but there are two SU (or SU type) carbs (why?) sticking out of the left side of the hood, which again might make sense if the engine was reversed to make an fwd MG TD. Alternately, the Alfa engine could have been altered to what used to be called a "Mexican Miller" configuration in hot rod circles, but it is hard to imagine why,

SO, it is not important, but curious; if anyone knows about the actual layout, its logic, or the car's history I would be interested in hearing it. Engine swaps are often awful, but sometimes interesting, and this just might be one of the interesting ones.
