[alfa] RE: electrical connections

A friend of mine who restored a lot of english automobiles suggests that nothing beats a file or sandpaper and dielectric grease. I believe there is a place for everything and do sometimes use contact cleaner (CRC) in cases where I am too chicken to pry a switch or contactor open. Otherwise, I purchased a set of small blue handled files at Sears although I think jeweler's files are more appropriate. The set includes a flat, round and triangle file. I use the files or about 150 grit wet sandpaper to clean the connections, contacts or connectors. I then reassemble everything except contacts with a smear of dielectric grease (any auto parts store). The connections then stay nice for years. There are a couple of ground points in my Saabs that I have sealed with a smear of sensor safe blue silicon (from any auto parts store) to keep salt spray away. I also use that silicon to seal contactor cases and other electrical covers. I don't think there is any magic or difference between brands.
