Re: [alfa] cam belt conversion?

Belts are available for use in an oil soak environment, they use em on the Laverda belt drive retrofit kits. If there was room for a belt system in the Alfa it wouldn't be difficult to make but at first glance I think the front cover is probably to shallow. No double row belts, just wider singles.

Not sure if it was a joke or not, but someone suggested going to a
double-row belt. I think any belt conversion would require reengineering
the engine, because wouldn't the belt would have to live outside the oil
environment of the interior engine? Not to mention expense of making
pulleys, etc. And I've never heard of a double-row belt, just varying
widths. Disclaimer: no experience in designing, testing, or even driving a
car with a belt. Every car I've ever owned has had timing gears or chains,
and some have had both (MGA Twin Cam, Fiat Dino).
