[alfa] GTV6 speedo problems
A couple of recent inquiries about GTV6 speedo problem (what could be the
problem? They either work, don't work, or read wrong, right?).
After X period of time and history goes by, electronic problems happen in
the GTV6 speedo and it needs to be sent to a good speedo shop; when this
happened on my 84 car a couple of years ago, it went up to Palo Alto, I think, so
the questioner (sorry I don't recall your name) in the Bay area doesn't have
far to go. As I recall, the failure mode on mine was this: it worked well for
many years. Then, the needle started jumping at speeds between about 45 and
55 mph, bouncing up to 90 or 100 or so. Then, readings were not accurate.
Then, reading were only a little bounce between an indicated 15 or so and
around 30, no matter the actual speed. After a nice long rest at speedo heaven
where a transistor was found to have failed and a new one installed, it has
come back and worked perfectly ever since.
Moral: send it out or use the tach.
