Some time ago we had a Spider - I believe it was an '83, but could have 
been '84. The drivers electric window quit working and I bought some 
flexible wire and installed it - worked fine for a couple of years till we 
sold the car. Do not know how long it lasted afterwards. The trick was 
figuring out the path of the wire - my recollection is that I took the 
panel off the passenger side to see how it was installed.
